Fins

Fins: They help you reach your underwater goal as easily and effectively as possible

Fins are by far the most important part of equipment for swimming beneath the water surface. The fin itself directly affects your speed, the amount of energy you will expend while swimming or diving, and additionally influences your maneuverability. Choosing the right fin is crucial, as a fin designed for snorkeling will not be up to the demands of serious diving, and vice versa.

Multiple functions and designs:

Fins are divided into three main segments, which are designed for entirely different hydrodynamic requirements:

Scuba diving fins

These models are designed for maximum power and thrust, as the diver uses them to move with all their diving gear. They are often medium-length and feature an open heel with an adjustable strap, allowing the use of neoprene boots of various thicknesses for different water temperatures.

Freediving fins

The main advantage is, of course, their efficiency, allowing you to conserve your energy as much as possible. For this reason, they have long and stiff blades. Their construction is therefore very important. Composite materials such as fiberglass or carbon are most often used in their manufacturing. The priority is efficiency and energy saving. Consequently, they require much less muscle effort when moving the legs underwater for long and slow movements, enabling you to conserve your energy.

Snorkeling fins

They focus primarily on comfort and simple use. In our offer, you will find many different types; for example, short fins are currently very popular as they also make it much easier to walk in and out of the water if you go multiple times. They can have a closed or an open heel. However, the most popular models are still those with a medium blade length, as they provide good enough thrust while also being the most durable due to the material they are made from.

How power is transferred:

Regardless of the purpose, two technical elements are crucial for the effectiveness of any fin:

Heel Type (Open Heel and Closed Heel)

  • Closed Heel: Must fit optimally for the best effect. This ensures optimal and direct transfer of force from the foot to the fin blade. The feel is slightly better, as you have the sensation of wearing a shoe.
  • Open Heel: Allows the use of neoprene socks of various thicknesses, fits the foot more easily, and accommodates multiple foot sizes. The closure system uses straps.

What Determines Blade Stiffness and Flexibility?

  • Thermopolymers and Rubber: As we mentioned slightly above, these materials are flexible and very durable. Suitable for recreational divers and snorkeling.
  • Composite Materials such as Carbon and Fiberglass: Offer exceptional stiffness and responsiveness. They are the choice of spearfishermen and freedivers. With every kick, movement underwater is easier and more efficient.
  • Channels and Vents: Some advanced blade shapes also have hydrodynamic channels that direct water flow and reduce drag, which increases thrust with less effort.

Cressi Fins: An Icon of Tradition from Italy

Cressi, one might even say the pioneer of Italian diving since 1946. They are a family business that offers fins and other equipment synonymous with comfort and long-term reliability.

Cressi fins as a brand represent a good investment in your diving world. Over the years, they have become one of the leading brands in the field of diving and related equipment.

We might exaggerate slightly and say: Cressi fins still look new after 15 years, and half the Adriatic is still wearing them. Which, in our experience, isn't far from the truth.
